Get the most fun at Universal Studios Singapore

Sunday, March 12, 2017

It's already my second time in Universal Studios Singapore, but it feels like I've never been here before. It's true that you can never ran out of things to do on a specific place. There's just so much to do, and explore. Even when you travel to the same country all over again, it will always give you a different and unique experience every single time. And that's something I really love most about travelling.

So, if you're craving for an adrenaline boost, or just want to have that fun moment with your loved ones, then USS is the best place to experience it in Singapore. Who wouldn't want theme parks, right?More than just being the first Universal Studios in Southeast Asia, Universal Studios Singapore is home to 7 zones: Hollywood, New York, Sci Fi City, Ancient Egypt, Lost World, Far far away, and Madagascar and 18 out of the 24 movie-themed rides here are exclusive for Singapore only.

Truly, Universal Studios Singapore is a must-visit. Here's how you can make the most out of USS.

Off Peak Season

As much as you like to visit during Christmas, holidays, and new years, we can't just possible brave the crowd and waste half of the day queueing up for one ride or surround yourself with crowd traffic. I suggest you visit theme parks like this on off season days. But if you do not have the time to do so, then maybe you can plan to spend the day on a week day rather than on weekends!

Tickets

Buy your tickets ahead of time. You don't want to line up on long queues, and enter the park late. The RW Sentosa site offers an online purchase of their ticket, and their partner websites sells it for a discounted rate too. Just don't forget to print it out and show it at the gates.

Express Pass vs Time Management

Universal Express Pass meant skipping the long queues and hours of waiting, and just have at least 5 minutes of waiting time. There are two kinds, the Universal Express Pass which can be used only once per attraction and the Universal Express Unlimited that can be used limitless. Not everyone is willing to shell out an extra penny for the express pass but if you're willing to spend a dollar and is not a very patient person, then please do purchase. It's hassle and stress free all the same. But of course, for those who wouldn't mind lining up for an hour or so, you should plan ahead and manage your time wisely.

Since we won't be getting express pass, as our goal wasn't to ride everything, we decided to go a little early than the opening time. (If you're visiting a theme park with your grandparents, you have to accept that you can't experience it all haha) We arrived at the USS gates an hour before it opens, so we could take pictures and line up first to enter. As soon as we entered the gates, we opted for the Transformers ride, to prevent from lining up for hours. Trust me, you should first put this ride on your top list or waste three hours on queue later on. We waited for 20 minutes, and we're on! We didn't even noticed the time since the story starts the moment you enter the queue. Since Ancient Egypt is next to Sci Fi City, we decided to try out the Mummy Returns ride.

So, I suggest that you get a map the moment you're in the park. Plan ahead, and do your research on what rides are suited for you, list them and map them. Here's the USS Riders Guide from RW Sentosa Singapore.

On Rides

Sci Fi City houses my favorite ride of all time, Transformers The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle. If I could spend the whole day at USS, you can probably see me repeating and repeating this ride as much as I could. Your ride starts at the queue, where in Optimus Prime is recruiting you to join the military command of Autobots in their battle to defend our planet from the so-called Decepticons. You'll then ride the transformer car that will lead you to battle. Afterwards, it's for you to figure out what happens next!

My second favorite, is of course, the Mummy Returns Roller Coaster ride in the Ancient Egypt. Though it's an indoor roller coaster, this ride won't prevent you from being scared and panicky!

Everyone knows how picturesque Universal Studios theme parks are, and so don't forget to release your inner creative side and spot on instagram-worthy angles along the way! The fun isn't burried in the rides itself, it's also in the mini alleys and cute facades of the structures there. Keep your eyes open, missy. My favorite spot can be found in New York. ;)

The technique is to map all the attractions you want to visit and ride, just like what I've said earlier. That way, you can maximize your time.

Recommended Rides!!!

1. TRANSFORMERS The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle (Sci-Fi City)

2. Revenge of the Mummy (Ancient Egypt)

3. Accelerator (Sci Fi City)

4. Madagascar The Crate Adventure (Madagascar)
5. Canopy Flyer (The Lost World)
6. Battlestar Galactica - HUMAN and CYLON lines (Sci-Fi City)
7. Puss in Boots Giant Journey (Far Far Away)
8. Enchanted Airways (Far Far Away)
9. SHREK 4D Adventure (Far Far Away)

Free Shows, Activities & Meet and Greet

USS offers a lot of shows in the different zones, all of which are world-class performance and fun to watch. My favorite is The Cruisers singing Uptown Girl! You can probably buy a snack or a drink in the food stalls/restaurants and watch the performance of USS staff on a particular area, just to save time. Don't forget to watch your favorite characters come to life on the scheduled Hollywood Dream parade too. Dance to the beat with USS's energetic and eclectic dancers! Plus, catch their meet and greet at the Hollywood zone!

And oh, don't you dare miss the show at Waterworld! You'd get to see a live action play that will literally blow you away. I won't spill, though! (:-P)

Recommended Activities/Shows

1. WaterWorld (The Lost World)

2. Lights, Camera, Action! (New York)
3. The Cruisers (Guard your hearts, ladies!)
4. Lake Hollywood Spectacular Fireworks
5. Hollywood Walk of Fame (Hollywood)

Pack light

Who wants to carry heavy bags to the theme park, and walk under a hot summer day? (Remember that Singapore does not have a cool weather!) Most likely, you'll spend your whole day inside the park, so just pack all your necessities like water, sunscreen or sunnies, cash, passport, extra shirt, and umbrellas! Although USS have available locker rentals in the vicinity, you don't want to spend money that's equal to the value of a single entry ticket to USS! That's a waste!

Forget the past!
Yes, forget about the past and make new memories. You may have been to other theme parks the same as USS before, or even USS itself, but then, it's always a new and unique experience all over to visit a park as beautiful as this.
