2017 ON REWIND - What happened, What I learned, What's next

Thursday, January 11, 2018

2017 is a year of change for me. I never knew how much a year can offer, until I have been able to accomplish and experience life as I dreamed to be. Looking back, I must admit I wasn't as active as I am here on my blog. Things change steadfastly, and I found myself venturing on a different platform. I may not be able to write everything yesteryear, but I promise to flood you with my travel stories right after this year-ender post. Alright, ride with me on a full rewind.

Cleaning out my Closet with Carousell

Friday, November 10, 2017

Being a blogger, it's important that I get to update my wardrobe all the time. I have to keep on looking for the latest trends, and new style to try. But closets don't expand infinitely, I also have to declutter so I can fill in some space. Joining bazaars will take up much of my energy, and also, include in the rental fee that I have to shell out. Probably, building up my own garage sale takes a months for it to get discovered. Good thing there is an application where I can buy and sell anything I would like from gadgets, to makeup, to my wardrobe without any fees or hassle- Carousell.

Carousell is a free buy-sell app that makes selling as simple as taking a photo! Sell anything from your preloved fashion, electronics, furniture & more. Make money! It's 100% FREE with no fees!
You can download the Carousell app for free from the App Store or Google Play Store!

You read it right, it's absolutely free.

1. Create a Carousell account.

2. This is how your account will look. (Follow my account too!) After that, click the Sell button at the downright middle.

3. Here's how your screen should look after. Choose the photo from your Camera Roll or manually shot a photo of the item you're selling right in action.

3. Yay! You got it! Now, pick a category it belongs to.

4. Way to go! Put some interesting title, of course something that is related to the item. Add the price, and set the condition.

5. Click "List it!". And wait for people to message you! :-)

And that's it! Totally hassle-free and very convenient to those who wouldn't want to bother braving the traffic to buy from stores or sell through paid rentals. All you have to do is take a photo and upload it. Easily earn money and give your preloved/new items a second home!

Where to eat in Tagaytay: Balay Dako

Monday, May 1, 2017

It's no wonder why Tagaytay is called the Holiday City of the South, more than having the cool weather Manila does not usually have, Tagaytay offers a scenic view of the Taal lake, and a lot of tourist activities/destinations like horseback riding, zip line adventure, theme parks like SkyRanch, relaxation spas, and some casinos.

But of course, it's no holiday city without having iconic and gastronomical Filipino dishes, right? Tagaytay is most famous for having to be home to a lot of great restaurants, and is the home of the iconic Filipino favorite, Bulalo. So, it's really a perfect place to spend a day or two with your loved ones.

Since Tagaytay is just a few hours away from where I live, my family and I made sure that we go there whenever we have long weekends and breaks. Yes, I've been to this city a lot of times, but it's only this year that I discovered one of the best Filipino restaurants I've been to here in the Philippines - Balay Dako.

Just a disclaimer; I am in no way affiliated with them and I would just like to share with you my own opinion and review.

Balay Dako, "big house" in english translation, is the newest addition to Chef Tony Boy Escalante's ranging filipino restaurants. It's a three story colonial house located along the stretch of Tagaytay ridge, with different dining sections inside - al fresco, comedor, terrazas, etc.

I am a sucker for soupy dishes like Sinigang, Nilaga, and Tinola. So, every filipino restaurants I visit, I made sure to taste one of the three I've mentioned. Balay Dako is not an exception for that.

No, this isn't Kare kare. It's their Sinigang na Salmon. Sinigang is a popular filipino dish which is made up of tomatoes, sour flavor (kamias/tamarind/bayabas), and either a meat or seafood. To be honest, I've never seen a Sinigang like theirs, and I just can't help but rate it 5 stars. It's the perfect sour taste, and the perfect "soup consistency". (Whatever you call it, sorry)

But wait, their Pinakbet with Bagnet with Rice also lives up to 5 stars too. It's actually one of my favorites now. I suggest that you order this one, instead of plain rice and an a la carte pinakbet plate 'cause it's less expensive that way.  It may look small in the pic, but it's for 3-4 pax.

What's a meal without a dessert? Their desserts are really small for sharing, and quite expensive in price. I'd give this one a 3.5 stars since it's just the usual Mango con Yielo.

They also offer delicacies and pasalubong treats. They have a small store at the left side of the lobby.

Balay Dako does not only offer gastronomical filipino dishes and pasalubong treats, but also a great place for some photo-ops and family gatherings. They have a lot of venue sections you can choose from, you just have to call for a reservation.

Comedor is a Filipino restaurant at the 2nd floor, it offers a beautiful panoramic view of Taal Lake. It can accommodate up to 250 pax.

My favorite section is of course, the Terrazas, as you can feel the breezy air while eating a hot soup. It has an al fresco and indoor dining altogether.

And the best thing? Balay Dako is instagram-worthy! It has a great view of the Taal Lake. Perfect for people who loves taking photos!

Don't forget to pose at the their iconic terrace!

So, if you ever find yourself in Tagaytay... you might wanna visit Balay Dako! :) Drop me a mail or comment down below if you did! :D
